What a week in the history of our club. With our 4th county title ever secured, the sense of joy and feel good factor for young and old was brilliant.
The players were presented in Clonoulty on Sunday night before Dan Breen was brought to Rossmore N.S. and Clonoulty N.S. Monday morning along with the whole panel. It was great to see the flags and all kids wearing the green and gold jersey. After a visit to our loyal sponsors Rossmore Engineering, another trailer was waiting for the Dan Breen and the players and Management in Rossmore, the home of Captain John O’Keeffe. Rossmore was particularly special with the players lead up to the village from the racquetball hall by a bag pipe player to the huge awaiting crowd.
Huge thanks to the committee and anyone who contributed over the weekend. The catering in the Hall after the match on Sunday worked a treat.
There was a great buzz down at the field on Thursday night as the little league finals took place. The future is also bright indeed.
Focus now turns to the Munster Championship where we now face Na Piarsaigh from Limerick in the semi final. The game throws in at an early time f 1pm. You would need an hour at least from home to get parking etc. Please come out in numbers to support.
Our proud club will look to secure our 4th ever County SHC trophy on Sunday next when we face Nenagh Eire Og on Tipperary club hurling’s biggest stage. Best of luck to captain John O’Keefe and his team, and the management of John Devane, Jason Forrester, Paddy Bourke and Andy O’Connor. The game throws in at 3.30pm and will be preceded by the Seamus O’Riain Final.
Our Junior A hurlers look like they will also be out in the coming weekend after coming back from the dead to secure an epic 3.20 to 4.17 draw after extra time with near neighbours Boherlahan in Dundrum on Sunday. It’s surely a unique and positive complaint to have two huge games for the club within 24 hours this weekend, with 40+ adult players still competing for major honours at the business end of the championship season. The replay is down for decision on Saturday at 2.30 in Dundrum.
Commiserations to our Senior Camogie team who went down battling to an exceptional Burgess Duharra outfit who secured their seventh title in a row last Saturday. We have a young team and they are sure to have more opportunities in the future.
We hosted the County Minor A hurling final on Saturday evening last in Clonoulty at short notice. In miserable conditions, Moycarkey edged out Cappawhite. Thanks to anyone that helped ready the venue for the teams and huge crowd in attendance.
We qualified for our first County Senior final since 2011 with a hard fought win over Toomevara on Sunday in Thurles. After a good performance, we won on a scoreline of 19 points to 1.10. We now play Nenagh on Sunday week October 21st. A county final training fund has been set up. All donations greatly appreciated. Contact Chairman Michael O’Dwyer (0872971603), Treasurer Paul Quirke (0868338354) or any committee member.
The big games continue next weekend. On Saturday, our Camogie girls contest the club’s first ever County Senior Final. The game throws in at 2pm in the Ragg Camogie grounds where we will meet Burgess Duharra. Its a fantastic achievement for the parish to have both senior teams in County Finals. Best of luck to the girls on Saturday.
We play Boherlahan Dualla on Sunday in the County Junior A semi final at 1.45 in Dundrum. Support for all games greatly appreciated.
It was a hectic but very successful weekend of games. It started off with the Junior A’s playing St. Patricks in the County 1/4 Final in Cahir on Saturday. After an epic game, we came out on top after extra time. The game finished 2.22 to 3.16. We have drawn Boherlahan in the semi final in what is a unique local derby. The game is likely to be played the weekend of October 13/14.
The seniors followed this up on Sunday with a hugely important 4 point win over a fancied Kildangan in Dolla on Sunday. After a physical game, we deservedly prevailed on a scoreline of 1.19 to 1.15. Well done to all involved in what was a huge panel effort. We now play Toomevara in the County Semi Final next Sunday at 2pm in Thurles. Best wishes and speedy recovery to Shaun Coffey and Paddy Hennessy who have recently picked up injuries in training and matches.
To cap a great weekend, our camogie girls qualified for the club’s first ever Senior camogie final after an excellent win over Drom & Inch on Saturday. The final vs Burgess/Duharra is likely to be the weekend of October 13/14 also.
Our Junior B footballers were defeated by Solohead on Sunday in the West Final in Golden. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fulfil the fixture in the Intermediate football quarter final on Saturday vs Grangemockler.
A hugely important weekend lies in store for the Parish’s hurlers. On Saturday, we play St. Patrick’s Drangan in the Junior A County 1/4 final in Cahir at 2.30pm.
