West Junior B Hurling Championship

Tipperary CO-OP Supervalu West Junior B Hurling Championship

Clonoulty-Rossmore 2-18 Eire Og Annacarty 1-21

For the second time this year Clonoulty-Rossmore and Annacarty have ended all square. This was the playoff match to see who plays Rosegreen in the Semi Final. The match was close all the way through with only a point or two between the teams. Andrew Purcell got the first goal early in the first half from a long range free that went in off the goalie to the back of the net. At half time Clonoulty were a point down and playing with the wind in the second half. The second half was much of the same with both teams trading points but with ten minutes left Annacarty got their first goal to go two points up. Clonoulty however fought back and drew the game with a minute to go. With the last attack Annacarty won a free forty yards out to the left of the post but was put wide.
So extra time was needed to find a result to the pleasing of the huge crowd that attended this epic match. Annacarty started well and at the end of the first half of extra time they were two points up. Clonoulty came storming back and with a goal from Gary Donnelly after good work from Patrick Hennessy we were 3 points up with five minutes left. Annacarty were not finished and with tired legs and bodies on both sides the physios were called in to get the players through. Big thank you to Philip Maher and his magic hands for his great work. Annacarty pulled our lead back getting three points to level things again.
So we go again probably next week which promises to be as exciting as the last two encounters. Get your tickets early looks like it will be a sell out. Can purchase tickets at all good Centra and Supervalu shops.
A great effort has been put in by the lads and for our third team to be so competitive against first and second teams it is a testament to what is going on at our Club at the moment. With 38 players already used between the Seniors and Junior A’s and 20 plus with the Junior B’s the Club is in a strong place at moment and long may it continue.
With a mixture of Minors, U21′s and let’s say experience hurlers that are giving one more year for the Club before they are put out to stud to bring on the next generation we are staying competitive and the dream is still alive for 3 Senior West Finals for the Club. It’s back to the drawing board again and with extensive analysis done after the match in the local pub that went on till the wee small hours we came up with some ideas. As a result the players felt that a change of management was required and a better game plan. As this is a dictatorship I ignored the first idea and came up with a cunning plan to get the better of Annacartys Management team of wise and cunning Corrie Hanley and PJ McGrath for the replay. Give the ball to Willie the King and he will win it for us.
