Clonoulty Rossmore 1-17 Eire Og 2-13
Clonoulty Rossmore qualified for the semi final of this year’s West Tipperary Junior B Hurling championship when the defeated Eire Og, by the minimum, in this eagerly awaited replay, at Golden on Saturday evening last.
Clonoulty got off to a flyer when Martin Sadlier had the ball in the Eire Og net after just thirty four seconds. Ronan Heffernan followed up with a point before Sean Breen opened Eire Og’s account after four minutes. Ronan Heffernan and Willie O’Neill exchanged points before Michael McGrath equalised when he crashed to the Clonoulty net after some defensive hesitancy. Seamus Carew then edged Clonoulty in front with two points. Willie O’Neill got the second of his two points. Damien O’Brien had a goal and a point within a minute to put Eire Og in control after twenty one minutes. Ronan Heffernan with two and Andrew Purcell from a placed ball drew Clonoulty level. Pat Aherne, from a free, edged Eire Og in front before Seamus Carew equalised. Damien O’Brien and Sean Breen had further points for Eire Og to leave them two points to the good as the teams headed to the dressing rooms for the break.
Eire Og started after the break with two rapid points from Josh Quinn and Pat Aherne to edge them further ahead. However Clonoulty settled and with two points from Andrew Purcell and one from Paudie Coen came more into the game. However Michael Buckley and Pat Aherne with points had Eire Og in front by 2-11 to 1-11 after seven minutes. Clonoulty then played their best hurling and were rewarded with a point from Seamus Carew and two long range frees from Andrew Purcell to pull back level with twelve minutes remaining. Richard Leahy and Pat Aherne edged Eire Og two in front by the twenty sixth minute. However this proved to be their final swansong as Clonoulty fought back and scored the last three points of this contest from Gary Donnelly and top scorer, Andrew Purcell, to lead by the minimum at the final whistle.
Clonoulty now go through to the semi final where they will play Rosegreen.
